Dual Core Battle Intel Wolfdale vs AMD Antares

Intel plans to counter 65nm AMD "Antares" dual core processor with their 45nm"Wolfdale" dual core processor based on Penryn core architecture in Q3 '07.Wolfdale will contain 6MB of shared L2 cache compared to 512KB dedicated L2 percore (1MB total) and 2MB shared L3 on the Antares. It seems like 45nm Penrynarchitecture is highly scalable and it will get Intel back into the MHz racenext year. As such Wolfdale will be able to scale up to 4GHz clock speedcomfortably and has a faster 1333MHz FSB to pair up nicely. It is interesting tonote that IBM is ramping up frequency for their next generation 65nm Power6design to over 4GHz in mid 2007 which is what Intel is trying to achieve as wellfor their 45nm Penryn since it will still take a while for Octo-core to beavailable. Although Wolfdale packed more cache and a much higher clock speed, ithas a TDP of 57W only. It certainly looks rosy for Intel next year. Wolfdale will pair up with the Bearlake P/G chipset supporting DDR3 1066, PCI Express 2.0 and ICH9 coming in the Q2 '07.

Dream JailBreak is just that, a dream

We previously ran a story of an iOS hacker that made claim of a jailbreak for the illusive iOS 6. From the DreamJB.com website it seems that this was an elaborate social media experiment. It was simply to show what can happen when a claim is made. The website received over 300,000 unique views and the Twitter account had 20,000 followers in just a week. Whether or not the reason is true is unknown. It could be he was caught in false claims and this is the backtrack.

This tweet came out and that is when we knew the whole claim was false. When we tried to find the DreamJB twitter account it seems it has been deleted. Dream says:

......There are services out there that charge for jailbreaks that are intended to be free. Imagine what could have happened should this have gone for sale?

The provided proof tonight was intended as a final boost to the viewers before this message was released.

Let this be a lesson to the public. PLEASE be careful when it comes to jailbreak solutions that are advertised outside of the prominent and accepted dev teams. Do some research and follow them on Twitter now......

If and when a true iOS 6 jailbreak does come out, we will be sure to inform you.

Firefox 1.5.0.2 released

Mozilla has released the latest version of Firefox with several security fixes, improvements to its stability as well as native binary support for Macintosh with Intel Core processors. As of this instant Mozilla hasn't disclosed the nature of the security fixes, the most serious of which could lead to remote code execution. Having checked Secunia earlier today, I saw no critical exploit listed there. So it must be one they have uncovered and fixed before anyone has discovered it. The nature of the exploit is likely to be disclosed within hours.

Data of 50 million MegaUpload users faces deletion

Data belonging to 50 million users on file-sharing website MegaUpload is in danger of being deleted this week due to unpaid hosting fees.

The data, which MegaUploads lawyer is hoping can be saved, faces potential deletion as early as 2 February by Carpathia Hosting and Cogent Communications, two firms which have not received payments for hosting the data since MegUploads funds were frozen earlier this month.MegaUpload was shut down on 19 January after the homes of its founder and staff were raided. Arrests were made on allegations of copyright infringement and fraud, but MegaUpload asserts that its service is legitimate. The service has around 150 million users and is considered one of the largest file hosting companies in the world. While many of the files stored might have infringed copyright, many more were uploaded by their original creators, and now they face deletion. MegaUpload is hoping to show some of these legal files to prove its case that illegal file-sharing isnt what its about. The shutdown and arrests have prompted many other file-sharing services to shut down or severely restrict uploads and downloads, for fear that they will be next on the list of the anti-piracy brigade.Source: BBC

ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium WiFi-AP

Asus Technology Pte Ltd. (ASUS), the worldwide leader of motherboards isproud to introduce the P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP, which leveraged Quad-SLItechnology, Intel’s Core2 Extreme support, and a third PCI Express x16 slot forNvidia’s upcoming Physics card to deliver superior gaming realism. Teamed withSupremeFX and DTS connect, P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP-powered systems providegaming experiences that look, feel and sound real!

Powerful processing capability for games

The P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP is a gamer’s dream realized. It is Quad-SLI readyand supports the Intel Core2 Extreme processor, providing superior processingpower for the most graphics resource-hungry applications. The motherboardincorporated three PCI Express x16 slots (two for SLI-ready dual-GPU graphicscards and one reserved for Nvidia’s Physics card) to enable unparalleledgraphics performance and gaming realism.

In a gaming system, the CPU drives game AI and logic, while the GPU deliversbeautiful three-dimensional visual representation. Physics cards take gaming tothe next level with never-seen-before dynamic motion and interaction. Bybringing the laws of physics into video performance, the P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-APnow offers enhanced realism for explosions, flying debris, liquid flows, watersplashes and movements influenced by wind. No two motions will be the same, which means no more canned animations and predetermined interaction.

Supreme audio and realistic sound

The SupremeFX audio card and DTS connect combined to offer great sound qualityto go with the robust video power. The SupremeFX offers enhanced signal-to-noiseratio, while DTS connect, with 24bit/192kHz full sampling in all 7.1 surroundchannel, delivers exhilarating surround sound for games, MP3, WMA and CD etc.

The motherboard, of course, included a wide range of exclusive features foundonly on ASUS solutions.

AI Lifestyle features

8-Phase Power Design

The 8-Phase Power Design provides highly efficient operation to generate lessheat (at least 15C) than other conventional power solutions. It reduces inputripple current and output ripple voltage, which keeps CPU and VRM (voltageregulation modules) from suffering the risk of high power stress. It has theadvantages of quick transient response and stability, especially beneficial whenCPU requires more current immediately under heavy loading or overclocking mode.

WiFi-AP Solo EWireless connection even when the system sleeps
WiFi-AP Solo allows a new level of PC versatility by providing both access point(AP) and wireless client modes. Even when the system sleeps the AP modecontinues to connect devices in the WLAN for games, Internet access and printerfunctions sharing.

Fan-less Designs EStack Cool and Copper Heat Pipe

The fan-less designs bring effective and noiseless cooling to counter the heatgenerated by components. Watch movies, listen to music and play games, and enjoythe peace and quiet. System damage from fan failure is also a thing of the past. The copper heat pipe directs heat generated by the chipsets to the heatsink nearthe back I/O ports, where it can be carried away by existing airflow, whileStack Cool effectively transfers heat generated by the critical components tothe other side of the specially designed PCB (printed circuit board) for fastheat dissipation.

Performance and silent computing

With AI Nap, users can instantly “relaxEtheir PCs without terminating currenttasks. System will continue to operate at minimum power and noise when users aretemporarily away. It downloads files and run applications at the quietest statewhile users are asleep. Simply click on the mouse to wake up the system inseconds. To balance system performance and silent computing, AI Gear enablesusers to choose from profiles to adjust CPU frequency and vCore voltage, minimizing system noise and power consumption.
