It is only recently that mobile communication devices such as smartphone and tablets have started adopting the use of NVIDIAs Tegra 2 SoC for their processing needs, but even then, it would appear that some OEMs may have already gotten a head start over their competitors where future versions of the Tegra SoC may be concerned.
Apparently, word has it that ASUS is currently well on its way in developing at least three more tablet PCs this year. According to a report posted by DIGITIMES, the Taiwanese OEM has plans for a 10-inch Eee Pad Slider EP102 and seven-inch Eee Pad MeMo EP71 in the next three months, but it is the third and unnamed tablet that has gotten our attention. This is because the report claims that the unnamed tablet will be making use of NVIDIAs Tegra 3 SoC, which has been touted as the worlds first SoC to posses a quad-core CPU.
As most people probably know by now, the Tegra 3 SoC, when released, will probably be the most powerful SoC to grace the insides of a tablet or smartphone. However, the SoC is slated only for a Fall 2011 release, whereasASUS is gearing up for a May-July launch for its tablets. If we take into consideration that the Tegra 3-powered version will probably be released a couple of months later in order to give the EP102 and EP71 some shelf time on the market, an August or September launch for a Tegra3 tablet puts it right in sync with NVIDIAs official release date, which suggests that ASUS may have secured launch partner rights for Tegra 3s release.
No pricing about either tablet has been revealed, although DIGITIMES claims that the EP102 will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, while the EP71 will use a Qualcomm CPU.
